01 — Strategy

Most brands don't lack ideas. They lack an agreed order of operations.

There is usually no shortage of things that could be done: a redesign, a replatform, a subscription program, better reporting, a new channel, a long list of fixes someone wrote down eight months ago.

eCommerce strategy work is how that list becomes a sequence — with an honest view of what your team can absorb while still running the business day to day.

How an opportunity gets sequenced
  • Impact

    Decides order
  • Effort

    Informs order

Every candidate gets read the same way, so the argument is about the business — not about whose idea it was.

What we look at

The whole business, not just the storefront

We look across customer experience, merchandising, technology, operations, marketing and data — because eCommerce problems rarely stay inside one department. Slow growth is sometimes a traffic problem. It is just as often a catalog problem, a fulfillment promise problem or a reporting problem that has been hiding the real answer.

We work as an independent party. We don't resell platforms, we aren't paid by app vendors, and we have no incentive to recommend a project simply because it is a project we'd like to build.

In scope

  • Opportunity assessment
  • Prioritization & sequencing
  • Roadmapping
  • Technology strategy
  • Analytics & reporting review
  • Platform & vendor evaluation
  • Merchandising review
  • Capacity & resourcing view
  • Execution planning

A redesign won't fix a strategy problem — and neither will another app.

How the work runs

Short enough to be useful. Deep enough to be right.

  1. 01

    Understand the business

Goals, constraints, margin realities, operational limits and what has already been tried.

  2. 02

    Assess the current state

Store, systems, data, merchandising and the workflows holding it all together.

  3. 03

    Identify and size opportunities

What's likely to move the business, what it takes to do properly, and what depends on what.

  4. 04

    Agree the sequence

A prioritized plan with clear ownership, written for the people who have to execute it.

The output is a working plan, not a deck that sits in a shared drive. And because we build as well as advise, the recommendations are tested against what implementation actually costs.
